A Message From Ian Bell Regarding The Launch Issues

This will even better once we get the option to join during practice and qual sessions
That will be an absolute game changer, can't come soon enough really. Not sure if joining qualifying will be an option but certainly practice sessions will be. I remember in pC2 that players joining existing sessions would cause a bad stutter for those already on track which wasn't great.. so I'm happy for practice JiP only. It also makes organising leagues so much easier.

The lighting effects are quite stunning to look at, im running a wet race in the morning and i can clearly see the visual improvements overall when it comes to the cars interior lighting, the reflections, the windscreen raindrop effects which now look more natural.

Great work once again S4 😊

Hi!
I'm really interested in the opinions of players who view PMR as a simulator, not a beer-fueled game. What's better for you: playing in a lobby with 10 competent players or in a lobby with 30 people, of whom only 7-10 are competent, and the rest are there just to mess around and ruin the race for everyone...???
Personally, I value my rating and, before going online, I first study the track and car in single-player races against the AI. I enter ranked races, and it's chaos. They don't even let me set a qualifying score. The race turns into a lottery. Transparency also works sometimes, then suddenly turns off, causing an accident. People playing with a third-person gamepad deliberately drive into my car to block my view. I play from the cockpit and can't see anything because of their actions, even if the cars are transparent. It's just awful. The ratings I spent weeks earning are taken away in one evening. If this continues, only kids with gamepads and hardcore gamers will be playing in PMR.
This problem needs to be addressed.

I'm not entirely sure how you can tell which view or peripheral that players are using, that sounds like nothing more than conjecture on your part tbh.

During any free access period a lot of new players will inevitably be joining online races.. resulting in a rather more chaotic experience than usual. Personally, I would have just avoided ranked races until after the free weekend had lapsed. As with any free access period, new players of all abilities and experience will join.. the deliberate wreckers will move on afterwards and hopefully many more respectful racers will purchase the game and make online better than before. It was always going to be something of a double-edged sword.

Hopefully everything settles down again after the 12th.

It would be nice to have solo qualifications sometime in the future. So, if you are fast enough you will more or less avoid the potential chaos. For example, currently MX-5 at RedBull ring qualy allows you to do only out lap and 2 laps of qualifying, but with 20+ ppl on the grid with quite big discrepancy on pace and skill the chances to set a qualy time you are capable of is not that big.

I played GT7 online for two years. I used a gamepad. I organized and hosted two championships with friends, bringing together the best players in Ukraine. And believe me, it's very easy to tell the difference between those who use a steering wheel and those who use a gamepad. The controls on a gamepad aren't smooth, and they steer very jerkily from side to side. There are a number of other telltale signs. And the fact that with transparency enabled, players playing in third-person deliberately drive inside your car to block your view—that's also a GT7 experience. This topic has been frequently discussed in the community, leading to suggestions to separate gamepad and steering wheel players into separate groups. So, excuse me, but I know what I'm talking about. With all due respect.

And yet.. due to high ping.. I've seen guys, who I know are racing on wheels, display jerky steering movements as if using a controller..

You understood perfectly well what I wrote earlier, right? What does ping have to do with it? With a high ping, the machine jerks not only left and right, but also up and down and even back and forth.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to argue with anyone, much less fight with anyone. I'm simply pointing out problems that need to be addressed. Otherwise, the game will turn from a simulator into something like NFS. And I really don't want that. I like PMR and really want it to get even better. Yes, I didn't know there was free access until the 12th, and that's why the game is so chaotic. But that doesn't change the problems that exist in the rating system and online matchmaking. Best regards.

I remember a time when that happened in ACC, you knew if there was a little stutter or spike that a new driver had joined the lobby. It was quite pronounced at first but now you can hardly tell.
Join in progress definitely needs to be in PMR

But from the outside, the rain looks ridiculous, as if someone had drawn a thousand lines. And the funny thing is that starting in Round 2, you can see it’s raining on the asphalt—but only on the asphalt. That’s all you see after lap 2. I’m someone who’s been trying to talk myself into liking the game, but I’ve come back down to earth, and I’ve lost hope that the game can still be saved. There are just too many issues.

I agree about the outside rain, that could be better.

Personally im more optimistic that the giants engine will get optimized in time.

I think you make a good point there, I could be wrong but isn't this the first application of the giants engine to a fast paced sim game like this? I've been playing a lot of MSFS 2024 (thanks to @Womp83 - it's cost me a fortune :ROFLMAO:) and that game is smooth as butter at 30fps on ultra detail. I imagine the Giants engine was born for something similar where you are plodding about on a tractor or whatever. All of a sudden you update physics 720 times a second and it gets stretched in new ways, and it will take time to grasp the best way to do that.
Fingers crossed it's as good as MSFS in VR eventually.
